I wanted to add a true dedicated 4-way joystick to my control panel.  Since I liked the Super Joysticks that came with my HotRod™, I felt that another Super would blend in the best on my new control panel.

My 4-way joystick is a Happ Super Joystick with the base, washer disc, and actuator from a Happ 4-Way Top Firebutton Super Joystick (TFSJ or Tulip Joystick).

Tulip Joysticks share the same construction as Super Joysticks (most of the parts are interchangeable).  However, to prevent diagonal movements, the Tulip's restrictor plate (switch bracket) has a diamond shaped opening.  The diamond pattern makes it move like a true 4-way joystick.

I used the Tulip's base for my 4-Way Super Joystick; however, the Tulip's Z-stop would catch on the edges of its own restrictor plate.  To overcome this problem, I trimmed the outer portion of a washer disc (to fit inside the base) and inserted it between the Z-stop and restrictor plate.

Note: The disc eliminated the normal knob tension and the knob is not drawn tight; however, the slack is minimal and I don't notice it during game play.
